Houblon Bastien is a family business determined to give new meaning to the words quality, craftsmanship, innovation and culture. That’s why we have a great desire to partner with local brewers!

Inspired by more than 50 years of hard work and passion, Houblon Bastien was founded on a simple but profound principle: brewers deserve the best hops for their beer.

In line with our mission, we break industry standards by accomplishing everything in the Bastien way. We distinguish ourselves by carrying out the entire processing process within 24 hours of harvest. This method, unique in Quebec, is an important asset that allows to keep the same aromas, levels of alpha-acids and essential oils that cones hold, a few hours before, at the time of harvest.

Our story begins in 1964 when Adrien Bastien, both an entrepreneur and a craftsman of the land, disrupted the farming industry by doing things his way and starting Gazon Bastien – the only sod farm at that time among all edible-products farms in the area.

His sons Daniel and François, later joined by grandson Alexandre, then expanded the farm to become one of the leading sod farms in Eastern Canada and the United States.

Fast forward to 2015, Alexandre and Daniel founded Bastien Hops with the same bold values since day one but with the thirst to collaborate with the new generation of brewers who share their same passion of continuously pushing boundaries to hone their craft with the best ingredients and savoir-faire.

The first harvest took place in autumn 2016.
